I really like my Bodum coffee presses - I have two sizes, and was delighted to see I could replace the beaker separately. But watch out if you order a replacement beaker. My small one holds 3 of what I think are ordinary cups, so I ordered the 3 cup replacement beaker by mistake. Looks like my small one is actually an 8 cup unit, and my big one (which hold 5 of my cups) is a 12 cup unit. There is no info on the Bodum itself of how big it is, so if you don't remember, it takes some guesswork to figure out whether you have a "3", "8", or "12" cup Bodum.
Study the measurements carefully and get the closest match. The oz's held are the easiest way to tell, but of course if the beaker is broken you have a problem.

This is the third beaker we've owned. It replaces the one that broke in the dishwasher. It makes coffee as good as the original did. French press coffee pots are much more convenient and less expensive than the fancy $250 coffee makers, but the beakers do break. Warning--do not drop or knock in the sink, or load carelessly in the dishwasher. It might be a good idea to keep a spare beaker around for such continginencies.

Was I heartbroken when I tapped the carafe (lightly) against the plastic garbage can to shake loose some stubborn grounds and heard *that sound*! The fact that replacement carafes are available eased the heartache a little. I'm really glad I read other reviews about ordering the correct size. What I thought was a 4-cup was in fact an 8 cup, so I was able to get the right beaker on the first try. It fits perfectly and I'm back in coffee heaven.

After reading a few reviews of the bodum replacement beakers, I decided that I had an 8 cup Bodum. I'm glad I was right! Now, I enjoy coffee just the way I like it every morning and know that I can order another replacement when I break it in the sink...which I think is inevitable with my skill at dishwashing.
