Amazon.com Review Made from high-carbon, cutlery-grade stainless steel, these well-made shears are great for a variety of uses--from cutting pizza to cleaning just-caught fish. They combine a straight edge with a serrated edge for maximum versatility. Plus, this handy kitchen tool's bonus features are numerous. A lid lifter pries under rolled metal lids to raise them quickly and easily, while its unique handle design helps grip the lids of tough-to-open jars. Other highlights include a bottle opener, nutcracker, and bone notch for grabbing game or poultry bones. Blades un-hinge for easy clean-up, and are safe to clean in the dishwasher. Ideal for trimming meat, snipping herbs, or cutting flowers, these shears are as useful for the hunter, fisherman, or outdoors lover as they are for the home cook. --Mary Park

Who Knew??! February 10, 2006 NuJoi (Chicago, IL United States) 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
This is my third pair of kitchen shears. The first was $10 and lasted a week. I thought the second pair was just fine until my Shun shears arrived. These cut well and are also very smooth while cutting. They fit my hand nicely. I can really feel the difference in quality. These can perform different functions -- opening bottles, jar opener, nut cracker -- one blade has a curve in it to accomodate bone. I love that they are dishwasher safe. I probably wouldn't have purchashed these if I were not completing a Shun set. But now that I have them, this is what I should have been using all along.
Shun Makes High Quality Items November 27, 2005 Vyshtia (CA, USA) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I love Shun and I love these kitchen shears. The whole thing is very heavy duty and feels of quality and durability. If you open it up all the way, it unhinges very easily for ease of cleaning. When you put it back together, it's solid again. It's very easy to do and does not sacrifice sturdiness. These are all purpose kitchen shears and I can't think of any improvements. The handle is made of some heavy duty plastic that's lines for non-slip. It's very rugged and utilitarian, but I'm not that hot about plastic. Luckily, it looks good and the quality and feel still can't be beat.
Best Shears December 18, 2006 Kea (Georgia) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
We bought these shears a little while ago, and they have been nothing but great. They fit wonderfully in both mine and my boyfriend's hands, which is great because I have much smaller hands than he does. Plus, I'm left-handed and do not have a problem using these shears either right or left-handed. We love that they come apart, so they can be cleaned properly after cutting raw meat. And they seem to cut through anything without a problem at all. We've used them to cut through packaging, pizza, hotdogs, pepperoni, beef, chicken, and even a kudzu bush so we could save a feral dog who got tangled in it! They're dead useful and much nicer than any knock-off comparison that you'd find at Target, Walmart, or Linens N' Things!
would never buy a shear without a bone notch February 7, 2007 fatmav 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
We've tried a couple shears over the years and this one model stands out because of (1) its bone notch, (2) its solid feel, and (3) its ability to be taken apart for cleaning. The last two are apparently mutually exclusive for some brands... Fortunately, the hinge is very sturdy on this one after you put the shears together. Try to cut a chicken and you will know the difference. P.S. Shun and Kershaw brands are both owned by Kai.
not shun, but still good February 19, 2007 Kathryn (ithaca, ny) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
these are made by kershaw, not shun. i dont know if these are the same company or something. either way, the shears are excellent. they come apart easily for cleaning after cutting things like raw chicken. they are sturdy and although the plastic handle seems cheap they work very well. i only use them as shears, i have yet to use the bottle opener, etc.
