Are these worth it? You bet - they're the cutting edge! August 2, 2008 J. Williamson (Bucks County, PA USA) 11 out of 14 found this review helpful
Wusthof has a reputation for quality knives, and they do live up to it. All of their knives are made in Solingen, Germany, by a family-owned operation that dates back to 1814. They have become an international favorite among cooks and professional chefs alike. All that aside, they say that no kitchen is complete without a paring knife, basic chef's knife and a pair of shears. This set includes all three, and each tool has ergonomic handles with a pebble-grained texture for a comfortable, no-slip grip. And from personal observation (and use), all of these have good heft, excellent balance and a quality feel. This Wusthof Grand Prix II 3-Piece Knife Prep Set includes: - A 3" serrated paring knife, quite useful for dicing, coring, and mincing fruits, vegetables and such. Has a nice balance and is precisely tapered from tip to base. - A 4.5" chef's knife that's a must-have blade for any kitchen. It has a high-carbon stainless steel blade, and can be honed by hand and easily re-sharpened. The blade is is permanently bonded to it's molded slip-resistant handle. It's a great knife for a wide variety of tasks. - The famous Come Apart Shears, with the blades that come apart for easy cleaning. They can be held with either right or left handed, and the handle has helpful steel-tooth insets to twist open bottle and jar caps. They're quite useful for everything from general kitchen uses to trimming cut flowers. By the way, the photo here does not do this set justice, so don't go by it. The manufacturer suggests that all of these be hand washed for best results. Would agree, and would also suggest the Wusthof 2 Stage Knife Sharpener or the Wuesthof 2-Stage Pocket Sharpener to keep a sharp edge on thes efine blades. This is a fine choice which would make an excellent starter set for the home cook, and a great gift for an aspiring chef.
Quality Knife Set August 9, 2008 Mark1City (USA) Purchased for my wife, the cook in the family. She appreciates quality pots, pans, knives, etc., and gives these items A+ ratings. They are everything JargonTalk described! And the Gold Box price was a great deal!
A Steal for $49.99 August 10, 2008 alan_in_la (Los Angeles, California USA) At $49.99, this is a no-brainer. The 4.5" knife fills the void between paring and chef's/santoku knives. The description doesn't say it, but the paring knife is serrated - nice, because my other paring knives aren't serrated. I already had the Wusthof scissors, so these will be gifted to some fortunate friend.
great knife set September 7, 2008 S. Bower This is a very good deal for two top quality knives and scissor set. Excellent for cutting fruit and vegetables for salads. The small knife has a serated edge while the larger has a smooth blade. I would recommend for anyone who needs some high quality pairing knives.
