Eat a Clif Bar and don't look back... September 10, 2006 Rebecca Johnson (Washington State) 18 out of 24 found this review helpful
If you are looking for new ways to incorporate soy products into your life, Clif Bars are one of the best tasting energy bars on the market. I've given up trying other bars that are mostly disappointingly filled with all sorts of oils I can't eat. Take cottonseed for example it is in everything! Not to mention, peanut butter and all the palm kernel oil saturating the health bar market. The ingredients in the Carrot Cake Bar: Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Soy Protein Isolate, Rice Flour, Malt Extract, Organic Soy Flour, Organic Roasted Soybeans, Organic Rolled Oats, Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Organic Dried Apples, Cocoa Butter, Soy Lecithin, Natural Flavors, Apple Fiber, Oat Fiber, Organic Milled Flaxseed, Chicory Extract, Psyllium, Organic soy Butter, Dried Carrots, Raisins, Coconut, Sea Salt, Nutmeg, Cinnamon and Cloves. Each bar is 240 Calories and is delicious for breakfast with a cup of tea. I eat a Clif Bar almost every morning and never really feel overly hungry during the day. Gary (The Owner of Clif Bar Inc.) seems to have also found out that "other" energy bars were not really that tasty. After his "epiphany," he spent lots of time in his Mom's kitchen working on making cliff bars. What a guy! I was at the point where I was trying to make my own granola bars, but after discovering these bars, I'm hooked. They are portable, delicious and basically, I love all the flavors. You can take them biking, hiking, walking, anywhere. This bar is especially delicious and I seem to fall in love with it again each October. Must be the spices and the creamy white chocolate chips. There are just enough chocolate chips to remind you of cream cheese icing. If I had to choose between a piece of carrot cake and one of these bars, the bar would win. Also look for the Cranberry Apple Cherry Bars and the Pumpkin Spice Bars. ~The Rebecca Review
Looks bad. Tastes great. August 26, 2006 Detra Fitch (USA) 15 out of 22 found this review helpful
I'm seeing a lot of reviews for the "peanut butter" even though this particular product is "black cherry almond". But I guess people are not paying attention to the flavor when they search "Clif Bar" or "energy bar". My review is on "Clif Bar Nutrition Bars, Black Cherry Almond". That is what the top of my screen is showing. So if this review ends up under a different flavor, well, it is not my fault. :-) I have not eaten an energy bar in years. When I saw the bar out of its wrapper my first thought was how UGLY the thing was. I mean it was U-G-L-Y people! I picked this brand because the package states that it is "Made with ORGANIC oats & soybeans". My husband and teen son seem to be trying to buy more organic foods, so I decided to help out. Only very people should even consider picking up these bars. They are a little over 200 calories in each tiny bar. About 25% of those calories are from fat. (Saturated fat is 1g. Trans fat is zero. No cholesterol. But sodium is over 60mg. Potassium is over 120mg. TOTAL carbs is 22g. Sugar is about 10g.) Diabetics, stay away! Hypoglycemics, stay away! The protein is only 5g and that is just not worth it for the amount of carbs and sugar involved in one bar. However, if you are not diabetic or hypolycemic and you are very active, then this product is the way to go! It looks bad, but the taste is really great. Also perfect for business people who are too busy to stop for breakfast or lunch. Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews.
High Fiber, Moderate Sodium Tasty Cereal Bar August 27, 2006 Robert A. Williams (Oberlin, OH United States) 13 out of 20 found this review helpful
Recently researchers found that high fiber consumption, especially from beans and cereals, is linked to longevity. A recent article in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition said that fiber provides cardiovascular protection and can lower the risk of heart disease. Yet nearly half of all Americans do not consume the RDA for fiber, which is 28 to 34 mg for men and 22 to 28 mg for women. This very tasty cereal bar is therefore a good way to add fiber to one's diet. It contains 5 grams of dietary fiber and 4 grams of insoluable fiber. Insoluable fiber is important because it acts as a sponge in wiping cholesterol from the inside of your arteries, which if not wiped off can cause fats to get caught on the cholesterol's hooks. These fats in turn lead to arteriosclerosis or thickening of the artery walls. Another plus is that 70% of this tasty bar's ingredients are organic. Non-organic foods carry the risk of cancer-causing pesticides. In short, this is a high fiber food with 110 mg of sodium, that doesn't taste like cardboard but is delicious and flavor-packed!
QUITE A MOUTHFUL OF ORGANIC NATURAL GOODIES & IT TASTES GOOD TOO! September 3, 2006 Heather L. Parisi (Pekin, IN USA) 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
IN A NUTSHELL: JUST READ THE LABEL -- THIS IS HI-CALORIE HEALTH-FOOD Yes, there is some salt in this, some fat and sucrose too. However, this is an energy snack, not a meal. For an energy snack this snack-bar gets 5-STARs for its natural and organic ingredients without artificial dyes, flavors and preservatives that fill most of the competitions' snack-bars. I'VE GOT SOME SUGAR MONSTERS I'D LIKE TO FEED THESE TO INSTEAD OF THEIR USUAL FARE: Did I mention that they are tasty? Yes, they are a bit rich, but how many do you really expect to eat at once? On this site [AMAZON] or Clif Bar's website you can see just what the ingredients are and all the vitamins and minerals present. Note the natural and organic ingredients, and frankly 210 mg. of sodium is not a bad thing if you are engaged in any physical activity. BOTTOM LINE: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR -- OPPOSITE OF A 'SLIM-JIM' If you can afford the calories and fat in your diet and you like the taste of these little treats, then this is something to eat without fear or guilt. Very few snack-foods on the market today can compare with the purity of these tasty tidbits.
Black Cherry Almond only May 17, 2007 Fred Camfield (Vicksburg, MS USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This review is for the Black Cherry Almond flavor only. Amazon has mixed the reviews for the different flavors, which is unfortunate as they are not all the same. I purchased this flavor after reading the other reviews. I prefer this flavor compared to the Cranberry Apple Cherry flavor which I also tried (and found to taste somewhat sweeter than I prefer). This is a good choice as a breakfast bar if you are in a hurry, and can also be taken along in travel bags or back packs. This flavor (no chocolate) ships well in heat and can be carried in heat. The energy to weight ratio, durability, and long shelf life (expiration date was 8 months from the date of delivery) makes it a good choice for backpacking, mountain climbing, etc., or as an emergency food in a disaster area.
