Amazon.com Review Offering three storage options, this cleverly designed appliance is not only convenient, it turns the chore of opening cans into a hands-free operation that's as fun as it is effective. The opener is cordless so it goes anywhere, eliminating the need to carry a can to a countertop or mounted electric opener. Simply clamp the opener onto any size can and let go of the soft-grip top. The opener then walks around the can on its own, shutting off automatically when the can is open. A swing-out magnet lifts the lid free. The opener is lightweight and recharges in a compact, 6-3/4-by-5-1/2-inch plastic charging base that can be mounted on a wall (mounting hardware included), set on the counter, or placed in a drawer. For easy cleaning, the removable, stainless-steel blade is dishwasher-safe. --Fred Brack

Great device! Make your own rechargeable battery and keep it.. December 13, 2007 flyboy (Alexandria) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I've had mine for 5 years. I love it and didn't want to see it go. However, the battery no longer holds a charge. But with a little creativity it's pretty easy to change it to use two AA rechargeable batteries (B&D does not sell battery replacements). Now it's good as new again. Since these use nicad Batteries, they have a bad memory affect, and if not discharged fully will no longer hold a full charge or even operate plugged in over time. To change out the battery, open the egg shaped unit with the two screws, remove the battery pack, get an AA cell holder from radio shack (make sure the batteries are wired in series- ask the guy at RS if you have any questions or take the battery pack with you) wire it in to the existing battery leads. Now remove a small inner part of the plastic casing on the non battery side which goes up against the battery (since the battery pack is now larger, the casing needs this slight mod. A Dremel works good for this. Add a couple of rechargeables, and enjoy for another five years. Next time you'll just have to replace the batteries. This is a about a 10 minute job.
Great idipendent living aid! November 3, 2007 Laurie Hare (las vegas) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I've only got use of one hand, that makes standard can opening impossible. This product is very easy to use I love it!

This is our second Gizmo. The first one got fried because of a faulty home wiring job. We couldn't find a replacement at any retail store. They all had the One touch opener. Since the One Touch is not rechargeable, we preferred the Gizmo. We found it on the internet. We think it is the best of its kind. We're very pleased.
GIZMO SAVED MY HANDS! July 20, 2008 JoMama (Tennessee) I love this gadget. It is the best can opener you will ever find. Unlike the "as seen on TV One-touch type" the Gizmo actually attaches easily to cans (ANY size) and is super easy to clean. I have both models, the under cabinet type and the plug in recharger type. Kids have NO TROUBLE using it, another reason I was never happy with other brands. These have SAVED my aching hands! I could never find an electric can opener that worked well enough (and they were always so hard to clean) so I always used the hand operated. I will NEVER go back to that or any other electric brand... especially since it's made by Black & Decker. I highly recommend it and gave several as gifts for the holidays last year.
LOVE IT! July 24, 2008 Leslie Dickhaus THIS CAN OPENER IS GREAT AND SO EASY TO USE. MY HANDS HAVE SOME ARTHRITIS MAKING THE MANUAL AND SOME OTHER OPENERS DIFFICULT TO USE. THIS IS SO SIMPLE; I DON'T USE THE MOUNT. LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!! WISH I HAD BOUGHT ONE SOONER.
