5 out of 5 stars Quick and Simple, Like it should be   December 2, 2008

This thing is wonderful compared to the phillips frames I just returned to Amazon.

The navigation bars on the front are intuitive and easy to use.

My setup process: I copied the family photos onto an SD card, plugged in the card, and voila she is done! The frame sees the card automatically, and immediately begins showing my photos.

Highly recommend this product to anyone who has a less than computer savvy relative needing a digital frame.

5 out of 5 stars A (Nearly) Full-Featured Digital Picture Frame (4+ Stars)   November 18, 2008

This Kodak EasyShare digital frame is a generation beyond the earlier models. With its touch border that allows the user to set up a slide show from a variety of options, the interface is friendly for even someone not entirely comfortable with new technology.

The unit comes with a black frame and two colored mattes (burgundy and silver) to dress up the look. Photos can be introduced either through a USB device or a memory card. Old digital frames used to have individual slots for the different kinds of memory cards, but the EasyShare has a single one that accommodates SD, XD, MMC, and MS cards. The included CD with EasyShare software is for Windows only; however, Mac software is available on the Kodak site. The best part of this frame is that you don't need the software to use it right out of the box. Simply stick in a memory device, turn it on, and the frame begins displaying. The only features this frame is missing that some more advanced models have are wireless connectivity and MP3 playback.

The EasyShare can be oriented for horizontal or vertical use. Because the device "letterboxes" photos not laid out in the same manner as the frame, the best look comes from a selection of photographs taken in the same manner -- for example, all horizontal photos for the horizontal display option. Choose from two different angles for table top display or mount it on the wall (hanging hardware not included); the white power cord is meant to be unobtrusive against a light background.

For a special gift, load up a memory card or USB device with family pictures and insert it in the frame before wrapping. We did this a couple of years ago with a different model for our parents, and they spent a lot of time watching and reminiscing within minutes of opening the gift.

5 out of 5 stars Great for the office desk!   November 24, 2008

In the age of digital cameras, digital photo frames are the logical next step. Why be restricted to displaying a single picture? In truth, I am a little surprised it took this long for them to get onto the market! Even so, it has taken while for them to get up to speed on functionality/affordability. With the "Kodak EasyShare P720 Digital Picture Frame" they have finally arrived.

Easy, absolutely no-fuss and with no need to be technical savvy, this digital picture frame is totally cool. Just pop the memory card out of your camera and pop it into the frame and you can watch your pictures unfold. There are some bonus features on the frame, all of which are accessed by a simple touch mechanism around the boarder, which means you don't have to dirty up the screen by constant pressing. Most of the features involve length of time between pictures and how they will transition.

The screen itself isn't too big, and kind of disappears in the home but is just perfect for a desk at work. Almost everyone keeps a few pictures of their family at the office, and the range of pictures available on this digital photo frame is all the better. It also means that you can easily change the photos just by bringing in a new memory chip. When work gets tough you can look at your latest vacation photos and drift away into good memories!

The frame does not include a memory chip, so isn't complete right out of the box. Obviously, all digital cameras will have a memory chip but if you use that then you won't be able to take more pictures! I like the USB drive option, which will not only hold more photos but makes it really easy to change out your selection. In fact, if you were going to give the EasyShare frame as a give, I would recommend packaging it with a USB flash drive like the Kingston 8GB DataTraveler USB flash drive - High Speed USB, maybe already loaded up with some photographs.

5 out of 5 stars Video clips not filling the screen - solution available   November 21, 2008

If, like me, you want your video clips to fill the entire screen of this frame (like it does with stll photos), rather than add in the black vertical borders, please feel free to email me for a solution at andynetter AT hotmail DOT com]. I've spent many hours trying to find a solution for this (Kodak were no help by the way!) and now that I've found one I thought it fair to share it. I will edit this post with step-by-step instructions when I have time to type them.

Overall, great frame, really cant complain about anything. The iPhone-style finger-swiping to flick between pictures using the touch screen is very cool! Highly recommended prodct, shame about Kodak's rubbish customer service.

5 out of 5 stars What a difference a year makes.   November 12, 2008

I bought the Kodak EX 811 a year ago for my parents which was a wireless 8" digital frame. Unfortantely, many of the features were not fully implemented, and overall, the frame was a disappointment. Given that Kodak has had a year to get it right, I purchased the W1020 for myself to check it out. Wow. Kodak got this one right. I have only had a chance so far to configure the wireless feature and connect it to my online gallery, so there are many other features that I have yet to try. But my first impressions are very good from the nicely implemented on screen interface with a touch panel to features that were previously not implemented like power on/off which actually starts displaying photos from any source including the online gallery. I noticed that other features that were missing in the previous version are now available like a random display option so you do not always see the photos in the same order.

I am now hoping that I can now upgrade my parent's EX 811 to the latest firmware to resolve some of the issues that the older frame had. I may write another review after I have had to chance to explore all the features of this frame, but it is looking like this frame is a real winner.
