5 out of 5 stars Absolutely necessary   July 14, 2007

If you use cast iron cookware, you should buy several of these. They are the only thing that I've found that works well when trying to scrub this kind of cookware. I have a Lodge frying pan and a Lodge grill (the kind that goes over two burners). The frying pan will feel greasy until I go over with the brush. By the way, I was told not to use soap to clean my cast iron so, I use Kosher salt. Sprinkle it on, use a little water to make it pasty and scrub. The sticky bits of food and grease will come off with just a little scrubbing with this brush. This brush is even more essential to clean the grill pan to get into the grooves and ridges.

It also works extremely well on my Le Creuset grill and grill pan. This scrubber brush works. I highly recommend it.

I have used this product for over month and it hasn`t fallen apart yet. After use , dry about the wood that holds the brush head and the metal ring that clasps it to the handle.Wood swells when wet and if left wet the devise ceases to function as designed.(the brush will fall off) When not being used on cast iron pans, this product is a great help in hard to get places;as a back scratcher, for instance. For $5.00, this a real bargain.

How different could a scrub brush be? A LOT. This very simple scrub brush is GREAT for my cast iron skillet. worth the meager price.

5 out of 5 stars Very happy with my skillet brush   February 29, 2008

I've had my brush since October of last year and it's still going strong, scrubbing the gunk out of my cast iron skillet. Concerned about the safety of using nylon bristles vs. something a little more gentle, I had bought a hand-held scrubbing brush with natural Tampico fibers, but within a few weeks the base started turning moldy and the wooden base holding the bristles in cracked, and the fibers themselves aren't stiff enough to clean well.

This was not the case with the Lodge Logic brush. No cracking of the wood, no mold growing at the base of the bristles.

When cleaning my cast iron pans, I either scrub them immediately after emptying them of food, using the heat of the pan and the hottest tap water available (no soap), and scrubbing till the pan is clean (this takes all of 15 seconds)....or I allow the pan to cool, then while I'm doing dishes, I heat up water in the pan on the stovetop to loosen bits of food, transfer to the sink, and scrub away with my scrub brush...again, no soap necessary. It never fails to clean away all the bits. Then, to clean the brush of grease, I use it to scrub a mixing bowl or some other pan I can use soapy water on...rinse, then dry with the bristles facing down in my strainer.

I plan on buying another as back up against the day I eventually wear out the bristles on the one I already own.

There is not a lot to say. These are very nice brushes. They are well contructed, and they do an excellent job cleaning my cast iron pan. We need to replace them about once a year, but they are inexpensive, and well worth it.
