Perfect for its Function November 26, 2008 Lisa Shea 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm a wine writer, so we always have a lot of wine in the house - including wine boxes. Now, before you go turning your nose up at a wine box, these are actually AMAZING devices. With a normal glass bottle of wine, once you open it air gets inside. The wine is being destroyed even if you cork it up and put it in the fridge. With a wine box you don't have that issue at all! You open the spigot on the wine box. The plastic bladder inside the box shrinks as the wine comes out so there is never ANY air touching the wine. The wine is always perfect. You can get some very good quality wines in wine boxes nowadays. It is completely up to you how much you spend on your wine box, as to the quality of the wine you drink. The wine box is about the ultimate in "storage devices" for most wines on the market. It is only the store-more-than-a-year wines (which the vast majority of people don't drink) which do well with the bottle-and-cork. So, that all being said, how does this Pinzon wine box stand fare? First, it is a great size. We have a number of wine boxes here and they fit perfectly. Yes, not all wine boxes are the exact same size, but you'd have to be upgrading to some sort of fairly large size for it not to fit. Next, the stand holds it at a good height. If the height was too tall, the unit would be likely to tip over from the weight being up so high. At this level you can tilt a wine glass beneath it to fill the glass to "proper fill" - i.e. about 2/3rds of the way up. That gives the wine the best flavor and allows the drinker not to spill it all over themselves. Perfect! For people who were used to dangling their wine box over the edge of a lip of a counter to get it to work, this is a great solution. It doesn't take up any additional space really, it is sturdy and the wine box is held securely. You could complain that it is not "universal" - i.e. there are large wine boxes which won't fit in this - but that is sort of a vacuous complaint. No wine box holder could ever fit every single wine box out there, and if you have a very large, heavy wine box you really probably shouldn't have it up on anything which could tip over. It's best to put those large puppies solidly on the counter and make sure they are stable there. Well recommended!
Really nice stand! November 25, 2008 Karen B. (Tucson, AZ USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm so glad I got this stand! I had just bought a little wine box from Target and it fit perfectly on this little stand. It's so much nicer than putting the box on the edge of the counter. The stand is black wrought iron and is a real compliment to my bar area. This will come in handy during the holidays, I highly recommend this to those who drink boxed wines.
GOOD QUALITY November 27, 2008 SKY2110 (USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I had been looking for 1 of this kind and was lucky to find it on AMZN. The quality is superb. Very well built and looks nice. I will buy few of these for gifts.
Nice little wine stand November 26, 2008 TheLastCoyote (WA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you use boxed wine at all this is a very nice item to have. It, of course, will not fit large boxes of wine but it is perfect for the smaller ones. It's decorative design not only looks better on your counter or table but the stand also makes the wine easier to serve. It is very sturdy and will not tip over while dispensing the wine.
Decorative and useful. December 5, 2008 K. Robertson (southern Virginia) I bought this stand anticipating that I would get some boxed wine in the near future. Until that time, I have actually been using it for another well-suited purpose -- a plant stand! It is the perfect width and height to accomodate a nice-sized houseplant, and with the plant sitting up a few inches off the table, leaves/vines nicely drape down. The stand is not actually wrought iron like another writer stated (does have that appearance), but is a black metal stand with a powder finish, similar to decorative candle holders and shelves that I've seen. It is definitely sturdy enough to hold a box of wine at a good height, and to raise the spout somewhat off the table to make dispensing easier. The design is simple and understated and right now I just love it on my table with an English Ivy in it.
