Amazon.com Review Are you troubled by more insects than you can swat? Sick of citronella? Driven mad by mosquitoes? The Flowtron 80-watt electronic insect killer is just what you need to remove pesky insects from the guest list at your next picnic or outdoor get-together. This ecologically friendly device uses no fogs, sprays, or poisons and comes completely assembled and ready for use. The unit plugs into a standard electrical socket and operates for only pennies a day. It utilizes a high-intensity black light bulb to lure and eliminate light-sensitive flying insects and is designed to protect an area of up to 1-1/2 acres. An exclusive mosquito-attractant cartridge, activated when the unit is turned on, is also included. The unit's high-efficiency vertical grid eliminates clogging that can cause short-circuits or flare-up of insect remains, and a protective outer enclosure prevents injury to children, pets, birds, and wildlife. The durable casing is rainproof and rustproof for years of trouble-free operation. A two-year limited manufacturer's warranty is included.

Allows us to enjoy the outdoors again!! July 4, 2001 momof2greatboys (Houston, TX USA) 67 out of 67 found this review helpful
Here in Houston we have had a particularly difficult time with mosquitos this year (due to heavy rainfall). I almost felt like we were held "hostage" inside our house, since going outdoors meant a barrage of mosquitos! But thanks to the Flowtron bug killer which we now have on our back patio, we can enjoy the out-of-doors again! We purchased the 80-watt model, even though our yard is only 1/3 acre. It has been very effective in eliminating our mosquito problem. One word of caution: the zapping noise generated by the Flowtron really bothers our Golden Retriever. He has even tried to escape from the back yard! We're hoping he eventually becomes accustomed to it. Just keep this in mind if you have pets ............
Stinger vs Flowtron/Winner! September 9, 2006 scottls1 (Kalispell, MT USA) 55 out of 55 found this review helpful
Stinger: Pros- With mosquito lure, killed lotsa bad insects- BUT! Cons- Their electric wire grid uses square wires that QUICKLY clog up. Pretty soon it was packed solid & killing nothing! I had to keep blowing it out ( air compressor) every couple of days- HASSLE! Flowtron "80!" (took 40 back!)- Pros- Killed lots more bugs, because it NEVER clogs up! The electric rods are straight up/down, so no cross wires to catch falling insects & clog. Dead insects fall out the bottom- Blow clean once a month. I used the Stinger mosquito lure, purchased at Wally World... Cons- The only con is that the outer protective plastic cage HAD bars only about 1/2" apart (same with Stinger)- This kept larger moths... from being able to easily get in to the electric grid. I used a large wire cutter, to cut out every 3d bar, on top 2/3ds of cage. Alternating..., so cut bar was in the middle of two solid bars on adajacent side- Still rigid! I put it on an outside timer (for when evenings cool down- Not much insect activity below 55 degrees...). Adjust accordingly. Never hang it near a door, as their is always a 10'+ swarm of insects around it. Try to hang it over head high, in a DRY (electric) area.
Awesome September 16, 2005 Kenny K. (NJ) 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
Don't even hesitate to buy this thing. It should be called the Flowtron Terminator. I have to keep the windows closed at night because it is zapping bugs all the time. I checked to see what types of bugs it is killing - alot of moths, mosquitos, flies. I bought one as a gift for a friend and they love it too.
They DO kill mosquitos July 2, 2004 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
These things really kill bugs. I hate bugs and have no mercy on them. My daughter is violently allergic to mosquitos and looks like we have been burning her with cigarettes after a few bites. The mosquitos had to go! The beneficials largely fly during daylight and those that don't better stay away from my yard. Hey guys answer me a question - if mosquitos aren't attracted to light why do the professionals use "mosquito light traps" to attract and sample populations? The light is a white light but it includes the blue spectrum. Google it and see. I am convinced the "mosquito magnet" "sonic web" makers made up the BS that these do not kill mosquitos. Mine certainly does. I sat out in Memphis TN last night for two hours and didn't get one bite. My arms would have been in constant motion swatting bugs three weeks ago. I had a sonic web last year and it didn't get squat. Thank God for online auctions. These things slaughters bugs. I have two at opposite ends of my house and couldn't be happier with them. Now to see if they last. P.s. Get the 80 watt version. Every review on the web touted its bug killing over the 40 watt versions. Also spray your soffit, porches, underside of decks, window overhangs, and shrubs with carbaryl, permethrin, or malathion. (I know bug lady is probably stroking out now!) They have a good residual and will kill daytime roosting mosquitos for up to 3 weeks (carbaryl or malathion at least). Check the regulations in your your area first.
Nothing But the Best May 31, 2001 Brenda Stevens (Greensboro, NC 27406) 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
I have owned the 80 watt Bug Killer for over 5 yrs. and have been completely satisfied with it's performance. I have 4 acres with about 1 1/2 acre as yard with the house. I have this Light hanging on my deck and have found it most effective. I have just replaced the lamps for the first time. I use the light year around. It not only serve's as a terrific Bug Killer, but also as a night light for the back of my house. I do need to locate a starter for one side. I believe that is what it's called. Could you please send me a parts list. I have one but there is not a starter listed on it. Thanking you in advance, Brenda Stevens
