5 out of 5 stars I love it!   October 15, 2007

We originally went to Target and tried out the strollers there. We planned on getting the Eddie Bauer Travel System (which runs around $200.) But after reading some mixed reviews that said the main drawback with that system was the heaviness and the latch system complicatedness (and as my husband and I are both short and had also been warned about complicated seatbelts), I wasn't sure how a heavy system would suit us. So I did more research and found the Safety 1st system. It's gotten good reviews for safety, looks nice, was $70 less, and doesn't weigh much. Plus, it has 3 wheels, which seemed nice for handling.

So we ordered this system; I was apprehensive while waiting for it, because what if it came and I hated it? But after it arrived and my husband set it up in a manner of minutes. It's super simple, looks great, folds up easier than any stroller I tried out, and the 3 wheels make the handling amazing. The fact that the wheels are large is great, too, because you get a super smooth ride (my sister put our dachshund in and wheeled him around and he had a great time!)

Don't be put off by the fact that it's not a huge brand name like Graco, or that it's not sold at every store. I was put off at first by the fact that I'd have to pay shipping for such a big package, but I ordered it through Amazon from BabyAge (they had $8 flat shipping). Yes, the cupholders are a bit small, but honestly? If I was shopping and watching a baby I doubt the cupholders would be my first concern. And yes, there aren't a lot of bells and whistles, but the tradeoff is the light weight and simple design. I'd definitely recommend the Safety 1st Travel System!!

5 out of 5 stars Nice and lightweight!   March 18, 2008

After reading hundreds of reviews and going back and forth between the Graco Metrolight, Graco Stylus, and the Chicco Cortina I found this travel system here on Amazon. What worried me most about the Graco and Chicco systems were the weight. We tried them out in the store and the car seat by itself was horribly heavy - without an added 10 pound baby inside! I was also worried about how the stroller would fit, even folded, in the trunk of my VW Jetta.

This system seemed to address all my concerns based on the other reviews, but I was still nervous waiting for it to arrive since it isn't one of the well-known brand names and the price was much lower than the others I was considering.

Simply put, this system is awesome. The big, three-wheeled setup is easy to push and maneuver. (It actually has a dual front wheel which helps keep it very stable.) All of the controls are easy and either lock or audibly snap in place so you know it's secure. When folded, it's compact and still easy to put into the trunk since all three wheels stay on the ground - keeping all the soft bits elevated and clean which I really like. It fits with room to spare in my trunk.

The car seat is lightweight and easy to carry. It took my husband about 20 minutes to assemble the stroller and install the car seat base. The controls for releasing the car seat from both the base and the stroller and the control to collapse the stroller are easy to use which is nice for first time parents like us.

There aren't crazy bells and whistles with this system, but it's sturdy, lightweight and maneuverable which are worth more to me than some of the other add-ons or a bigger cupholder. (Which, by the way, a standard 20oz coke bottle fits into fine. You might have to skip the jumbo bucket of drink at the fast food place, but otherwise they're fine.) The canopies are easy to unfold and retract and even with the seat all the way back you can easily reach into the basket compartment on the bottom, which is a complaint often mentioned with the pricier systems.

The only caveat I have for this system is the color, and it actually works for us but we were surprised. From the pictures I expected more of a silver and black, but the system is baby blue and black. We're having a boy so it's okay, but I would have preferred a more gender neutral or at least a different color than baby blue. It's a very minor complaint but I thought I should mention it so other parents wouldn't be surprised.

In short I couldn't be happier with my choice of the Safety 1st Acella Sport travel system. I can't wait for our little one to arrive in a few weeks so we can tool around the neighborhood in style!

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely love this stroller - car seat is fine   September 8, 2007

We looked at a lot of strollers and were considering the Graco Metrolite and a couple of others. It is extremely light weight, very well built, and has all kinds of great features. We weren't sure about the tri-wheeled set-up until we played with this one in a store. Now, we can't imagine having the quad set-up.
- The larger wheels have made it excellent for long walks around our neighborhood.
- It folds very, very easily
- It folds in a way that keeps the wheels down and everything else up, out of the dirt and wet ground.
- It looks much more stylish than all the big plasticky Graco's and other strollers in this price range

The car seat is fine, but nothing special. The sun shade is a little flimsy. We were also a little concerned at the rescinded Consumer Reports article. It turns out that they were testing at much higher speeds than intended, but this one still didn't do as well as a couple of others.

5 out of 5 stars Chic, robust, great looks, good engineering, smooth and includes everything   January 23, 2008

I was going to order from amazon but i found a lower price on web and ordered this.

If i were the CEO of saftey 1, i would have sacked the marketing VP. the product looks much better than the minimal photos. I will put up some photos soon.

there is one ambiguous instruction in manual. So it took 25 minutes to assemble which should ideally take 15. [ i had to remove the wheels and reassemble after finding the brakes didn't work ... as i had put them the wrong way.]

But once that was corrected, by wife who was very apprehnsive on buying it, was visibly very happy.

With sleek aluminium frame, and good color combination, it doesn't look like the junk of meaningless plastic extrusions like gracco etc., we saw in babys'r'us or even walmart. i like that it is neutral color.

It has an upscale chic look. but the fittings are very robust and clicks are quite reassuring. YOu could easily find out that they compromised a few obvious design choices for safety.

The front wheel is actually a double wheel, giving more stability. The front wheels rotate unlike the fixed ones, but if you are taking a long walk.. you have a switch to lock them without allowing the movement. this i like best... most tri-wheel strollers don't hav this option.

With the car seat on, it looks even better. The car seat is of same standard as snugrider, but not as cool as the Chicco one. But the car base is better designed than some of the leading car seat bases.

2 of the 3 cupholders are small, for american size. I wonder if they meant them for baby bottles than beveage glasses. the canopy has two transparent windows from front and back to look at the baby. It also has a toddler foot-rest which many 3 wheel strollers don't.

And like all 3 wheel stollers it offers more space for storing goods below the seat. I haven't used the seat inclining mechanism yet, and that does not seem super convenient; but i think i can guess why they opted for this system than easier ones.

very satisfied with it overall... waiting for my daughter to like it when she arrive in Feb :)

5 out of 5 stars Love it! (So far...)   August 27, 2008

I bought this travel system after reading TONS and TONS of consumer reviews on just abot every affordable system around. I compared this to just about every Graco, Evenflo etc system (re: didn't check ou tthe Peg Perego's etc, as I can't fathom spending that much!). I bought this one as it received rave reviews and was totally affordable. I bought it from albeebaby.com (was on sale for $119.00!). I bought an additional base for the car seat (it comes with one) and still paid less than what i would have paid for the Graco/Evenflo systems that i looked at - and this looks a lot better.

So - I had a spring baby and have used this system almost daily for 3 months. So far, I love it! Here's the breakdown -

Stroller - AWESOME! This is one of the lightest strollers I have ever used. It steers very well and the three wheel design (with the swivel front wheel) allows you to make sharper turns than a conventional stroller. THe front wheel does have a lock to be used on really rough services (gravel, etc), but i've never had to use it. I use this stroller and walk a VERY large yellow lab at the same time and have no problems. I can steer this easily with one hand if I have to. I do wish that the seat reclined further so that my young infant would be able to use it without the car seat, but that's not a huge deal. The basket could be a bit bigger, but I've just grown accustomed to not taking lots of stuff! I just throw a few diapers, some wipes, extra clothes and a camera down there and we're good to go. It folds down fairly compactly and I can lift it into the back of our Ford Freestyle one handed if need be. When used with the infant seat, it is somewhat inconvenient to have to add in the extra rod that the seat clips onto, but again, not a huge issue. The rod is self storing which is nice. The canopies on the car seat and the stroller meet up nicely so that baby can be completely covered if there is tons of sun, and to some extent this will also keep out rain and bugs, though not completely. Also, the car seat handle flips down and can be used to pull the stroller from the front if you need to (super handy in clothing stores where the is often a tight fit!).Even with the infant seat, the stoller is very easy to push, steer etc and remains very stable. The three wheel design of the stroller is nice as it is streamlined and fits into tight spaces and the front wheel doesn't stick out nearly as far as other three wheeled strollers.

Car Seat - This seat for me, is just ok. It's not as user friendly as other seats, but it does the job that it's supposed to do. I don't have any real huge cons, but there are not any really huge pros to it either (besides compatability with the stroller). THe seat is fairly large (bigger than lots of others that I see), which is good as you can use it for the full first year (unless your baby is an Amazon), but this also means that is is heavier, more cumbersome to carry (especially without the "z" handle many seats have) and may be more of a struggle to fit into a small vehicle. We have a 2 door grand am, which it fits in, but it must go on the passenger side so that my husband can still drive the car (front seat must be slid forward quite a bit). The size makes it a struggle to remove from a 2 door car as well - gets caught up in the seat belt. But, with some practice it goes a litte more smoothly. Our second car is a Ford Freestyle (a 6 passenger crossover), which is VERY easy to get it in and our from, but still is pretty tight with the front seats. I really like that it has head and body padding, there was no need to buy anything extra to go with it when the baby was a newborn. It has managed to cradle his head through his hips just as well when he was 8 pounds as it does now when he is 14. The strap system is your typical 5 point harness, which is nice but the crotch clip (for lack of a better term) is a little weird. It's made of a strange plastic, probably would be better if it were metal like our toddler seat. IT is also somewhat difficult to buckle if you have the straps adjusted tight enough to be safe for the child. However - if you hold the button down when you are buckling it, it buckles much easier. Like other users have said, the canopy is fairly flimsy and falls a lot during use (not so much in the car as wen you are carrying the seat.)

All in all - definitely a good buy. My husband wonders if the wheels of the stroller will hold up over time, but so far so good. I love it and I'm happy with the purchase. It looks much nicer than other stroller systems (nice and streamlined - I get tons of compliments)and the stroller is the best i've used. The car seat isn't the greatest, but again, no real serious issues with it, just some minor inconveniences. Not really any bells and whistles, if that's what you're looking for, but after 3 months of use, I'd buy it again.
