Amazon.com Pop's rush to raid the cradle continues with this promising debut by 25-year-old Canadian singer Michael Buble. And while the young vocal star's good looks are smart enough for a boy band, his muse seems to have sprung from a more sassy and compelling musical era. Mentored by Paul Anka (whose '50s hit "Put Your Head on My Shoulder" is covered in dreamy, cabaret fashion here), Buble sings in the orbits of Darin and Sinatra, covering swing epoch gems ("Come Fly with Me," "The Way You Look Tonight," "That's All") and rock era standards (Van Morrison's "Moondance," "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" by the Brothers Gibb, Queen's "Crazy Little Ting Called Love") with equal aplomb. David Foster's production is typically slick and played to the back row of the bleachers, but it's informed by smart contexts provided by such arrangers as Johnny Mandel, Randy Waldman, and Mike Melvoin. If the choices of material are sometimes staid and predictable, they also give the singer a crucial framework for building toward something more challenging; his is a bright future. --Jerry McCulley
Album Description Producer David Foster (Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston) has a new discovery in the wake of a very successful young find Josh Groban. Michael Buble (pronounced boo-blay) is a 25-year-old singing sensation whose smooth voice & heartthrob style harks back to the swingin' greats of earlier decades, to the likes of Frank & Dean, but also speaks to a new generation's sensibility. 2003 self-titled debut from Reprise/143.

Another fun album of pop standards. March 7, 2003 Riley McCarthy (Atlanta, GA USA) 105 out of 111 found this review helpful
Michael Buble has a competent voice, an interesting style and a natural flair when it comes to singing pop classics, and his debut album, produced with the help of David Foster and Paul Anka, is a gem.Listening to it, you'd never guess the album wasn't of the Rat Pack period. Buble, whose smooth voice is a delight, is only 25 years old, though. With Rod Stewart and Robbie Williams doing albums that harken back to the era when Dino and the Chairman ruled the airwaves, it's good to see someone who's not just doing these songs as a sort of wink-wink throwback. Buble sings these songs because he prefers singing these songs, not because he had a pop rock career that fizzled. Hopefully, with future albums, he'll stay within this genre and continue doing such fun, catchy work. It's good that someone like Michael Buble recognizes that the best music is the kind that can lead couples to dance.
What a Voice! February 12, 2003 Steven E. Morris (Milwaukee, Wi United States) 31 out of 31 found this review helpful
If you want to give the perfect Valentine's gift that screams Romance!! This is it... This guy has such a great voice. You will swear you are back in 50's Vegas listening to Sinatra woo you. The arrangments are just as gorgeous, but what do you expect when David Foster is involved. This is one C.D. that will stay in my C.D. player for a very long time.
Glorious..."That's All" February 12, 2003 David A. Preiser (Tacoma, WA United States) 117 out of 133 found this review helpful
Michael Buble Has Recorded A Cd Of Great Standards Old & Newer!!His Version Of "Fever" Is The Best I've Heard, I Was Thrilled With His "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" & His "Put You Head On My Shoulder" Is As Tender And Romantic As Any Song Ever Recorded!! Though This Cd Has A Lot Of Romance, Michael Also Kicks It Up A Notch On Songs Such As "Moondance", "Come Fly With Me" & "Summer Wind"!! The Production & Arrangements Are Beyond Words...David Foster & Co. Have Done It Again! Michael Buble Is A Great Singer & LOVES These Songs!! Thanks Michael!! A Fan Forever-David

For me it was great to see anyone in the music industry taking someone seriously on this kind of music. Since Harry Connick Jr. there hasn't been anyone else, in my opinion, who comes close to singing these old classics the way Frank, Dean, Sammy or Tony had. I would like to thank whomever is responsible for the great arrangements such as George Michael's kissing a fool, Van Morrison's moon dance and the BG's "how to mend a broken heart" to mention a few,( as well as the rest of the CD ),to showcase Michael's wide and diverse singing range. Though I must say that his second CD did not have the same effort from the arrangement people as his first one, still, Michael comes through with another Great effort. Hopefully more people will get on the band wagon and give this young man all the help he richley deserves to reach his destiny.
One of the best male vocal albums February 12, 2003 36 out of 39 found this review helpful
I bought this album on a whim. Michael's voice harks all the way back to the days of the true crooners. One of the finest albums and a welcome treat after the recent abysmal Rod Stewart release. I hesitate not with my endorsement for this fabulous album. Great for dinners, parties or just shear pleasure. Will be awaiting any follow up albums with great anticipation.
