| Synopsis:
Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson go for the gold (and the diamonds, emeralds and rubies) as a just-divorced couple who bicker and banter their way through an adventure- and laugh-packed undersea treasure hunt. McConaughey is Finn, in love with his ex (Hudson) and in deep with gangster Bigg Bunny. After eight years of searching, Finn gets a clue to the whereabouts of the Queens Dowry, a fabulous fortune that mysteriously disappeared in the Caribbean in 1715. Now all he has to do is get the gold, get the girl and get going before Bigg Bunny gets him. Directed by Andy Tennant (Hitch), Fools Gold glitters with danger, action, romance, comedy, great one-liners and a great time to be had by all! |

Excellent Romantic Adventure June 20, 2008 Rubin Farr (USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I think a lot of people went into this movie expecting another lightweight comedy from this duo, but got a lot more. I went to see it with a female friend who loved "How to Lose a Guy", but isn't really into action movies. Well I loved it, and she not so much. Besides the entertaining storyline, the breathtaking scenery really steals the show. It's like going on a tropical vacation for 90 minutes, except you can drink the water. I don't think you can really qualify this as a chick flick, but it's earned a spot on my blu-ray shelf, and for a guy that's a lot.
Fun movie! June 30, 2008 C. Kates 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I really enjoyed watching this movie. It looks especially nice on Blu-ray! Don't expect oscar material, just your average entertaining movie. I highly recommend renting it.
Fools Gold March 6, 2008 Walter A. Bradford 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
Fools Gold is a delightful romance comedy with adventure and mild violence thrown in to attract all types of movie-goers. One person wrote that it is a silly movie.....I always thought that silly was synonymous with comedy. You ever watched a serious comedy?????? No, there is no sex, very mild violence and to say this is a "romcom" well that is sure part of the plot but it also understates the flexibility of the movie, the players and the plot 100%! What they neglected to state was that this fun-film is also an adventure movie with History of piracy thrown in.......and they never have to use the "F" word to get a laugh. When the movie concluded me, my wife and 50 other theater goers stood and applauded the movie. What more need I say than, don't listen to the nay-sayers, trust your own intuitiveness and see the movie for yourself. You will be enchanted with the underwater scenes, riveted to your seat during the mild violence scenes and happy and weepy-eyed when Matthew and Kate finally do reconcile their differences and guy proposes marriage to gal, who just a few days before had divorced him. Now for the kicker, Donald Sutherland is in this movie...........need I say more. A seasoned comedian though lately lowered to the level of sinister villian roles, he has returned to the role of comedian and is just as bright, spontaneous and funny as ever. Try it, you might like it!!! Regards to all-Walter

DVD's that I order from Amazon always arrive in excellent condition. This one was no exception. We watched it right away.
Bigg Bunny Cameo May 9, 2008 Meredith Scarlett (Tampa, FL) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
If you love Matthew Mc Conaughey and Kate Hudson, this film is irresistible!!!Only these two could have pulled off these roles. Their chemistry is off-the-charts and they make the plot fun. The film is set in beautiful tropical locales as Kate and Matthew pursue lost treasure and----each other. They even reuse a prominent line from "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days". It's too cute... This movie is not meant to be serious in any way. You can't bring yourself to be afraid of the villain---a ficticious rapper named Bigg Bunny. He lends comic relief. It has to be said that Sutherland was great in his role as well. If you are expecting a super-suspenseful action movie, you won't like this. But if you have a sense of humor and enjoy great scenery and these two actors, get yourself some Fool's Gold. :0)
