Inspirational Song from a GREAT Voice May 25, 2008 jetcitypink (Seattle, WA United States) 37 out of 44 found this review helpful
David Cook .. winner of 2008 American Idol. I wrote CHEESY before I read the story from the songwriter behind the song here: blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=54139274&blogID=423067994 The song is INSPIRATIONAL, and this is the first release from a powerhouse of a voice. Amazon needs to re-add his first solo album, "Analog Heart" here for sale again (it was pulled midway through the Idol competition, apparently the powers that be at Idol thought it was disadvantageous for Cook to have an album for sale; even though they permitted other finalists' albums for sale here {and continue to do so}). We will hear much, much more from this young man. What a powerful versatile, edgy voice!
Positive, hopeful, theraputic --- not cheesy and sappy July 21, 2008 bonfamily (Parkesburg, PA United States) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I am the first to defend people's opinions, as long as they're delivered with dignity and respect. I am, however, dismayed that songs with triumph and positive messages are labeled cheesy and sappy. When life is such that your sister is suffering from cancer, or one of your children is going through difficult times, or your parents are getting older and maybe even passing on, and your son who is in the service makes you proud and scared by contemplating volunteering to go to Iraq, it is these positive songs that can either give you the momentum to function, or take your mind off your troubles, if only for a few minutes. This song is so appropriate for the moment it was introduced. David has paid his dues and deserves the success of the song. He has worked hard on his music for years and brought us something very different during his time on Idol. He has a strong voice and huge talent and will be delivering a variety of music in the coming years. As you go through life and things are good or things are bad, remember the songs that are positive and present a good message, and David Cook, will still be on the radio for years to come and will be giving us the diversion we need to get through the times of our lives, both good and bad.
David Cook is a craftsman May 27, 2008 LJ (Pittsburgh, PA United States) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
When you look at the lyrics themselves, this song is absolutely cheese filled. I wouldn't necessarily like the song itself; however, David Cook shows that he's a true craftsman with his music. He took as song he had to sing and gave it his own indy rock flair. I can listen to this song over and over again and not be phased by it's "magic rainbows."
Not trite May 28, 2008 J. Johnson 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
Dream Big should have been the Idol coronation song, but Cook put as much of his style into this song as he could, magic rainbows and all. It's actually a fairly uplifting song, and still gets to me as I think about his win on the finale. Compared to other coronation songs, it's the best since Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like This". However, I don't believe the song is at all representative of what to expect from Cook in the future. For those of you who missed out on Analog Heart before it was pulled, that album was all sorts of brilliant.
He will sing his way right into your heart! May 27, 2008 KSUWildcat93 (Blue Springs, MO United States) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
David Cook spins this required song for the AI winner his own way to make what was originally pure cheese into something...less cheesy. After a few listens I like it and will have it in rotation with his stuff from idol and his pre-idol albums. I am really excited to see what David will do for his next album. With his song writing/arranging skills and ability to deliver a song combined with the resources now at his disposal...I think he will create something awesome! I can't wait!
