5 out of 5 stars One of the Rare Xbox360 games thats justifiably worth the money   September 29, 2006

This game is awesome! The graphics, game play, storyline, and playability ranks among the best of the xbox360 games made - if not the best. This is a type of game you will get your money worth out of. The very first time I turned it on I played five hours straight. It is very addictive. One of the main things I ask myself before buying a game is how long will it take before I get bored of it. Most game I get bored of rather quickly. Taking into account XBox360 games cost $60 dollars this is very important. This is a type of game without a doubt I'll spend over a 100 hours playing.

There are many options in the game. For example, one can follow the mission structure or just go around exploring the city. You have a lot freedom to choose what to do. You can do things such as steal cars, hustle and threaten store owners, become a hitman, jack supply trucks and warehouses, take over other families in the city and even become the Godfather of all of NY City. There are many weapons to choose from also.

So basically, you cant go wrong with this game. The other five star reviews before mine knew what they were talking about. Buy it and enjoy!!

5 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Godfather: The Game Version!   September 21, 2006

Look no further than this version. It tops all others in looks and in bonus content. Previously released on PC, PS2, XBOX, and PSP this all new XBOX 360 version is by far the best looking with all new higher detailed textures and surfaces. The buildings look even more real and the cars have that shine that you'd see on real cars. All of the character animations have been improved and the fire effects have been bumped up as well. This verison also featured weather effects and fully interactive stores and places of business. Even more amazing is the fact that EA actually got Godfather actors Robert Duvall, James Caan, Abe Vigota, and Marlon Brando to do some of the voice work. Marlon Brando recorded an hours worth of voice work but only a few lines from that session could be used, due to his failing health at the time that effected the quality of his voice. They are used in the earliest story sequences that feature Don Corleone. The final word from EA says that they used 3 sources for the voice of Marlon Brando: 1. voice over session 2. audio clips from the film 3. a sound alike.

If you love the Godfather film then this game is a must own. This is by far the best looking and the best playing version. If you like Mob or gang videogames then this game might have what you are looking for. It is a lot more organized (like the mob itself) and places great emphasis on that organization. Not just random mindless violence. Respect points must be earned and vendettas have to be watched and kept in check to avoid the fall of the Corleone Family. You want organized crime? You wanna be a part of the most legendary mob family in history? Look no further!

5 out of 5 stars So addicting...   October 24, 2006

This is quite posssibly my favorite 360 game yet. I haven't been able to put it down, it is simply too addicting. Like others have mentioned, the voice-over work is phenomenal. Getting Marlon Brando, James Caan and Robert Duvall in the game is unreal. It really makes you feel like you're there. That said, this game doesn't even need the Godfather universe to be great. It's just icing on the cake. The game itself is so engrossing. The missions are fun and challenging, the open-ended gameplay of doing whatever you want is great, and the fun never seems to end. Just make sure you have plenty of time to play this. Once you start, you may not be able to finish.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Game, Recreates classic moments from the movie with long and fun gameplay.   November 14, 2006

The Godfather the Game is an amazing game. Don't be thrown off that it is not one of the best sellers, it is one of the best games I have ever played.

The Godfather is often thought of as one of the best movies of all time. This provides the perfect setting for this open-ended gang-warfare sandbox game. In case you aren't familiar with the films, The Godfather takes place in 1950s New York, and chronicles the events of a mob family, the Corleones, and their rival families and exploits.

There are 5 major regions in The Godfather: Little Italy, where the Corleones reside, Brooklyn (Tattaglia), Hell's Kitchen (Cuneo), Midtown (Barzini), and New Jersey (Stracci)

The Godfather puts you in the role of a character that didn't appear in the films, but plays an important role in the story of the game. At the beginning of the game you can customize your character, like in Saints Row, Oblivion, or Fight Night. You then see your father get brutally killed by rival mobsters in an alley. You are taken forward to Don Corleone's daughter's wedding, and as we know a Sicilian man cannot refuse a favor on the day of his daughter's wedding. Your mother asks the Don to turn you into a mobster and he accepts. You are taken under the wing of Luca Brasi, Don Corleone's Senior Officer.

You begin as an outsider for the Corleone family, which means you can extort rival families' businesses and buy out their rackets (illegal businesses, such as brothels, casinos, or drug smuggling). Extortion plays a major role in The Godfather, and with the new Black Hand system, it is also one of the most entertaining things you can do. My dad himself loves it when I walk into a store and beat the owner silly until he gives me money. To extort a shopkeeper, you must find a way to convince him that he needs to pay you. The methods can include damaging his shop, beating him up, strangling him, shooting him in weak places, or holding him over high windows. When you extort you want to get the most you can out of the shopkeeper, but you cannot overpressure them. If you push the shopkeeper too far, then he will refuse to pay you and try to kill you instead. Extorting businesses earns you your weekly pay, so it is very important to the game.

There are many other things to do than extort businesses though. There are plenty of story missions that help you advance your rank through the family. You recreate many classic moments and scenes from the movie, including journeying to Hollywood to perform the infamous horse-head scene, seeing Sonny Corleone gunned down at the tollbooth, and placing the gun for Michael Corleone. There are many favors you can help your fellow mobsters and other people with, and there is usually always a hit to be performed. You go to a man to find out who to kill, and in what recommended fashion. If you whack the man in the recommended fashion, you get many more respect points and much more money.

There are 5 major mob families in The Godfather: The Corleones, Tattaglias, Straccis, Cuneos, and Barzinis. Each family resides in a different area of New York, except the Straccis, who reside in New Jersey. Each family has different strengths and weaknesses, and are all equally brutal in trying to take down each other. In order to advance ranks and weaken the rival families, you must do everything in your power to destroy them. You must raid their warehouses and drug fronts and bomb them and kill everyone inside.

As you advance through the ranks of The Godfather, you will be introduced to characters such as Sonny Corleone, Michael Corleone, and Tom Hagen. There are several major ranks you can achieve: Associate, Soldier, Caporegime (Capo), Underboss, Don, and eventually Don of New York.

There are many different weapons you can use in The Godfather, which can all be upgraded to 4 levels. They include a couple of different pistols, a machine gun, a shotgun, and different weapons such as Garrote wires, Molotovs, dynamite, and timebombs.

Combat is simple and fun in The Godfather. EA has created a simple locking system that you hold the left trigger and fire away with the right. You can also beat your enemies hand to hand, by holding the left trigger and then moving the right analog stick. It may sound weird, but it is extremely fun and you get the hang of it soon.

In conclusion, The Godfather is one of the best games out there. The combat system is very fun and the missions recreate classic scenes from the movie and add hours of extra content. Don't be turned off by other negative reviews, and BUY THIS GAME!

5 out of 5 stars All Around Great Game   February 10, 2007

Talk about the ultimate in mob stories. The Godfather, a top selling book of all time, spawned a triology of culture-affecting movies. The video game brings you into this same rough, complex world.

It goes without saying that this is a *mature* game - you are dealing with hookers, bashing people to get them to agree to deals, and much more. This isn't a pretty world that the mob inhabits.

You are a newcomer in the world of the Corleones, and have to prove your worth. Probably ever gamer who plays this will have read the book, seen the movie or both - so you already know and appreciate the family situations going on around you.

The acting here is phenomonal, and no surprise, because you're rubbing shoulders with James Caan, Robert Duvall, and even Marlon Brando did voice work for this before passing away. When they talk about games becoming real, dramatic interactive experiences, this is pretty much what they were getting at. It sucks you in and really makes you feel like part of an epic, intricate story.

The world you explore is dynamic and vast. Do you want to go all-out Rambo and try to hit your enemies head on? Do you want to be sneaky and sly, trying to out negotiate your rivals and set them against each other? There are a variety of tactics to try here.

Some of the wide-openness sets up odd situations. You can promise a store you'll protect them for a small fee - but then you go around back and break into their safe. Does that really count as protection?

With all of the gangster style games out there, you would think that Godfather, coming as it were rather late on the scene, might have become a "too late, too boring by now" game. But this really shows how a combination of great plot, great acting and great graphics combined with open, well designed gameplay is wonderful even when you've seen the genre almost done to death.
