Earth is conquered. The Covenant is everywhere. Halo 3 promises to be an epic journey. View larger. | Game developer Bungie announced that Halo 3 will be released for Microsoft's Xbox 360 sometime in 2007. The game was revealed to the world at the Microsoft press conference held at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood, CA in May 2006. To gamer's delight, the announcement was a complete surprise. The rumors have been abound for the past year, as everyone wondered when the next installment would be ready. Bungie and Microsoft did a stellar job keeping their lips sealed, and fans benefited from their first glimpse of the hallowed third and final installment. The short presentation was delivered in real-time on the Xbox 360 using the current version of the Halo 3 game engine. That's right, no studio production video, Bungie and Microsoft delivered the real deal: what they showed at the announcement is what gamers will see when they play Halo 3 in 2007. The HDR lighting, self-shadowing, GPU-run particle system and many other effects are rumored to show up in full effect in the final game. Needless to say, the gaming community is salivating. CJ Cowan, Bungie's director of cinematics discussed one of the most startling moments of the presentation: the return of Cortana. "Given the variety of character and story arcs at the end of Halo 2, we wanted to boil down our announcement to a few key threads. Cortana and the Chief being a galaxy apart is a situation we haven't seen before, and is something that is a powerful component to Halo 3. We are using her transmissions in the demo to give the viewer a few subtle clues to her situation and state of mind, without revealing any specifics we want to save for the game itself." Graphically, the game closely follows in the tradition of Halo 2, although it has been upgraded to take advantage of the Xbox 360's more prodigious visual abilities. As art direct Marcus Lehto explained, "[The presentation] was intended to be an understated announcement of Halo 3 -- the tone is that of mystery and suspense -- the calm before the storm. I wanted to make sure that we reintroduced the Chief, showed that Earth was thoroughly conquered, with Covenant everywhere, and that there is a glorious, ancient artifact buried under the Earth's crust which will provide Halo 3 with the epic journey which we all want." Taking full advantage of the power of Xbox 360, Halo 3 expands on everything that has made the franchise great, adding a wealth of technical and gameplay advancements. The game design has evolved with next-generation, high-definition visuals, enhanced A.I., an advanced real-time lighting engine, and, of course, new weapons, characters, and challenges. Halo 3 promises an unparalleled first-person shooter experience and, in the end, the most compelling and engrossing story in the franchise's history. Last, but certainly not least, Halo 3 builds upon the unique social multiplayer experience and innovative, evolving online gameplay of Halo 2. Rest assured, you'll still be able to run with your clan and battle with (or against) your buddies from coast to coast.
Product Description Halo 3 is the third game in the Halo Trilogy and the thrilling conclusion to the events begun in Halo: Combat Evolved. Master Chief returns to finish the fight, bringing the epic conflict between the Covenant, the Flood, and the entire human race to a dramatic, pulse-pounding climax. The Covenant occupation of Earth has uncovered a massive and ancient object beneath the African sands - an object whose secrets have yet to be revealed. Earth's forces are battered and beaten. The Master Chief's AI companion Cortana is still trapped in the clutches of the Gravemind - a horrifying Flood intelligence, and a civil war is raging in the heart of the Covenant. It's all been building to this -- a desperate, final war that leads to a soul-shattering climax of epic proportions. Take control of Master Chief to defeat the Covenant and destroy the Flood to prevent the annihilation of the human race.

Yes the hype is true! April 17, 2008 R. Awbrey (Atlanta, GA USA) 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
I don't really know what else to say about Halo 3 that you didn't hear 6 months before it was released. Yes, it is an awesome game. Yes, it finishes a great story. Yes, the game play is phenominal. Yes, the graphics kick butt. Yes, the multiplayer is insane. Yes...yes...yes...just buy it already. Seriously, it is an awesome game and a must own for the 360. My only complaint was that it was too easy. Even on "Legendary" difficulty I found "Realistic" on Rainbow Six: Vegas and Hardcore/Insane on Gears of War much more challenging. Your results may vary, but that's just my opinion.
Awesome game April 18, 2008 P. Myers (Alberta) 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
Great shooter in the Halo series, better yet the best Halo to date. Xbox 360's performance really shows through here, I bet this would be choppy as hell on a PS3 espessially the multiplayer.
Best game ever February 19, 2008 R. Johnson (SoCal, USA) 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
When I first booted up Halo 3, I was awestruck by the spectacularly beautiful graphics. The forests look like the amazing paintings of William Bouguereau. Halo 3 is a grand masterpiece. It's a very slick and polished game. The graphics really do look next-gen. They're much better than the graphics in Halo 2, which were very good. There is just so much amazing detail and sophisticated 3D rendering in Halo 3. This is a fantastically great work. All the Halo 3 bashers really tick me off. Their bashing is not justified at all. They are just negative, nasty, ungrateful, jealous people who like to criticize & trash things, and they decided to trash Halo 3 because it's such a huge target. The Halo series of games has attained such immense greatness, that all the nasty people can't resist trying to knock it down. That's just pure garbage. There is nothing lacking about Halo 3 whatsoever. They are jealous that they never created anything anywhere near as great as Halo 3. They are jealous of all the success of Halo 3. This is so wrong. Halo 3 DID live up to expectations. The proof is in how many copies it sold and how much money it made. All this bashing is a bunch of lies, because the truth is revealed by how many people bought and played this game. It's just that some bought and played and enjoyed this game but can't help trashing it because that's just how they are, through no fault of the game. As for me, I'm very appreciative of the massive amounts of hard work that approximately 300 people in Bungie poured out for several years to create this amazing game. I give them a standing ovation. And I am looking forward very much to Halo 4. No announcement of Halo 4 has been made, but I am absolutely sure there will be one. I have only one request: no more flood please. I would rather not fight any more gross looking undead zombies.
Halo 3 ended the series with a bang! April 1, 2008 Kuswara Pranawahadi 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Halo 3 is one of the best games the Xbox 360 has to offer. This game is what people have been waiting for for 3 years. Did Bungie hit the bull's eye in Halo 3? Most definitely. Halo 3 is the rave on Xbox Live; it is one of the most played game next to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Both games rival in superiority, that one must wonder how these two games have gained praise and fame. Halo 3 is the last entry in the Halo video game series. The first Halo came out on Xbox in 2001, and its success spawned Halo 2, which later spawned Halo 3. The multiplayer in Halo 3 is really fun. You can have up to 16 players on a map. You are allowed to customize your character's appearance, colors, and symbols based on your liking and personality. There are about 15 maps in the game, and more downloadable maps on the way. Since there are so many people playing the game, you'll meet a large variety of people, most of them friendly and supportive. There is a film save feature, which allows you to see everything that happened during a multiplayer match or campaign from different perspectives. You can even save clips or pictures to show other people. Another one of the game's highlights is forge-the map editor. What makes this fun is that you can battle your friends while you edit the map. This lets you buy a weapon, vehicle, equipment, or map prop, which you can carry around. Each map has a budget, so you have a limit on how much you can buy. The storyline is short but ended the series really well. There are 9 levels in the campaign, where you battle different kinds of aliens in vehicles and on foot with other marines. You basically play as super soldier Master Chief who is fighting the Covenant (the aliens) for humanity's survival. The cooperative mode lets you play with 3 other friends, all of them different characters. Easter eggs like skulls and hidden characters add some pizzazz to the game. You may know that there is an equal number of people who love Halo 3 and hate it. If you like Sci-fi and/or shooter games, try it out first. I am almost sure if you play this game on harder difficulty levels and play ranked multiplayer matches, you'd be addicted to this for a good portion of 2 years. As a total package, Halo 3 is worth the 60 dollars. The limited and Legendary edition is for die hard Halo fans and those who want to play the game but also learn more about it. Halo 3 disappoints and impresses others, but almost everything from books to movies are like that. If you know the whole Halo story, this is the best out of all of them, even the novels. The ending is awesome but somewhat saddening, too. This is the end of a great story. This is Halo 3.
Superb. Lives up to the hype. February 24, 2008 Roderic Rinehart (Heart of Rural Indiana) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I played Halo more than about any game ever except for maybe Mario Kart and World of Warcraft. It was the culmination of so many things done right, on a next-gen system, and the smoothest gameplay combined with an intriguing story for a FPS. Halo 3 lives up to the hype, which was massive, and even permeated mainstream media. Wraps up the Halo plot, but its kind of akin to Matrix 2 and 3, it had to be told, and you had to watch it, but the first one still has a place in your heart. It is a FPS shooter, so the gameplay is what really matters... And the gameplay is perfect. Smooth, even paced, clean graphics, incredibly gun co-op campaigns and multiplayer. If you own a 360, get Halo 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock. You will not regret any of them, and play them many times over.
