Xbox 360 is much smaller than its predecessor--it measures approximately 3.3 by 12.2 by 10.2 inches and weighs 7.7 lbs. It's powered by custom IBM PowerPC-based CPU with three symmetrical cores each running at 3.2 GHz. This is powerful enough to draw 500 million triangles per second. In other words, it makes for great looking games in standard TV definition, and even better thanks to built-in support for HDTV 1080i televisions. It also supports the widescreen 16:9 format. The unit has a 12x dual-layer DVD-ROM drive, which plays both the game media and progressive-scan DVD movies right out of the box. For game-save and media storage, users can choose between the detachable and upgradeable 20GB hard drive, or a separately sold 64MB flash Memory Unit. Xbox 360 uses a refined button layout for its controllers. Back and Start buttons sit at the center of the controller and between them is a new Xbox Guide button, which instantly takes the user to the Xbox 360 user interface. From there, they can check for friends online, access personal digital content like photos and songs, and more. The black and white buttons of the first Xbox controllers have been replaced with new shoulder buttons placed above the left and right triggers. Let me start by saying that I own 2 Wiis and love that system. I bought the 360 after the price drop and because it has HDMI and an extra heat sink. Plus with the 3 year warranty there really is very little risk. I ordered it from Amazon Prime for overnight on Friday (1.99) and it came by noon on Friday.
I have now played it over 20 hours and am blown away by the system. I did not even buy a game, yet spent hours playing some of the literally 99 demos they offer of full 360 games (such as Bioshock and Madden 08). Plus I played many other demos for the games in Live Arcade (every arcade game has a demo). I loved Geometry Wars and bought it for 5 bucks. I also downloaded a HD version of 300 (4.50) and an episode of Star Trek (2.00). I have never had so much fun with a system before without even buying a game.
As for the system, it works perfectly and the fan makes virtually no sound. I was agonized over whether to buy now or wait for the 65nm chip and am so glad I took the plunge. The warranty makes it easy. I cannot imagine not having this system.

At this time, the new revision with HDMI is NOT, I repeat, NOT the new Falcon chipset with 65nm, which would lead to less heat and supposedly less Red Ring of Doom. It has the same innards as Xbox 360 Elite, except the smaller hard drive; it's a Zephyr. This revision however does have quieter BenQ drive.
If you are thinking about buying an Xbox, wait for the Falcon chipset which should be out in 2-3 months.

This is the best system money can buy, just becasue people get faulty ones and post bogus reviews on here that all Xbox's are bad doesen't make it fact. I work a game store and yes we did have a couple of Xbox 360's come back 4 out of 80 i belive, but the number of PS3's that came back was staggering 25 out of 60 from different batches. The worries nay sayers post here are worries when buying amy next gen system, but so far for performance, games and returns Xbox 360 is by far the best system to buy for the money.

BE SURE that any Xbox 360 you buy has the new Falcon 65 nm chipset. This chipset will run much cooler than the old chipset because it uses less power. It should be much less prone to the overheating failure problem, the "three red lights of death". Check to see that the Xbox 360 uses the 175 watt power supply, if so, it has the new chipset. The old chipset uses a 203 watt power supply. Buy a system from a place, like Amazon, that has a large turnover and you'll probably be alright, as most of the old stuff is out of the pipeline after the holidays.

I'm having a lot of fun with the HDMI 360. I love both the PS3 and the 360. I wouldn't want to be without either one. Even my PS3 overheats and gets buggy in performance if I don't allow for enough ventilation. I moved my Sony DVD player completely away from the PS3 so that the PS3 can breathe properly. I do the same for the 360. These are high powered electronics and I keep the A/C consistently on to keep the room cool as you would keep cool a room of computers. Luckily, the Chicago winter will last months on end and I won't have to worry about insufficient cooling then!
