Too cute!!! July 8, 2006 Miriam L. A. Gunn (San Francisco, CA USA) 17 out of 19 found this review helpful
We got this in at the store I work at, and we were all enchanted! This was the very first time any of us had seen a set of play food for young children of sushi! Three kinds of sushi come with shrimp, tuna, salmon roe, and egg pieces. The proper condiments are included: ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce, and of course, chopsticks! The round "dots" on the sushi rolls are velcro, so that you can stick the pieces together and slice through them with the play cleaver, and the velcro even gives it an almost authentic chopping sound! It is just lovely to look at. All of the pieces are solid wood, and beautifully painted. The box is in black with details of cherry blossoms, and it has a "menu" on the back for restauraunt pretend play! I plan to get one for a friend's child, but I have to admit that I'm really tempted to buy one for myself, too!
Original and fun! February 28, 2007 PCG (CT Shoreline) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
My sister in law has a gift for choosing unique toys and books for my kids, and this sushi set tops the list. She chose this for my son's second birthday, and he loves it! His three and a half year old brother and seven year old sister have also been playing with it a lot. They spend so much time "making sushi," selling it to each other, and eating it. The accessories like the knife and chopsticks are great, and the velcro for assembling the sushi is a brilliant idea. Most kids love to play with pretend food, but pretend sushi is just so cool. The box the set comes in is great, not only for storage but because it's so cute. Even if you don't care for sushi, you'll love this toy and so will your kids!
This is so cool... December 30, 2006 Annemarie Karnbach 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
My hubby and I got it as a gag gift for Christmas, and love it! The kids started playing with it and really have a lot of fun with it. The chopsticks have velcro on them so that they can pick the pieces up. The ginger pieces are felt, and my daughter thinks they look like bandaids. They make sure everything is put back and we play dinner all the time. My daughter even tried sushi last time we went out! Really cute!
Fantastic, Unusual Little Novelty Item. November 6, 2007 Dazed and Amused (San Pedro, CA United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This little toy holds no age boundary. We actually saw it in the fish section while we were buying packaged sushi and I just had to buy it for my daughter. She's 13 and a "japedophile", very addicted to the Japanese culture. We had so much fun with it we're buying a second one for her friend in Colorado who she met online! A real cute novelty item, sure to make anyone laugh. We leave it on the kitchen table, and someone actually said, "Ooh, sushi, can I have one?" Without realizing it was fake!
My 3 year old adores this set November 21, 2007 R. Malone (Garden Grove, CA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Okay, so it may be unusual for a 3 year old to love sushi so much that he'll gobble down all the sashimi he can grab, but that's not the only reason my little boy loves this set. He enjoys serving 'sushi' to the rest of us on special occasions. This is an excellent way to introduce more exotic items into your child's play food/kitchen collection. The silver paint began to wear off of the knife after just a few days, but otherwise the set has proved to be very durable (we have owned it for 9 months now). Also with the concerns over pthalates in children's toys I love Mellissa & Doug's high quality wooden toys.
